We had a great weekend away at Adventure Plus in Shropshire. The weekend included mountain biking, fencing, a low ropes course and canoeing. The activities were all run by the guys from The Quinta Centre. Doing these activities helped the lads build good friendships and learn to work together. In the evenings we thought about what it means to be a man of God in today's world. The lads discussed the pressures they felt under and looked at the many similarities and few differences in the ways that Christianity and Islam equip them to deal with these issues.
What the lads thought of the weekend
"I'm coming away with new friends. Great experience. Complete strangers but as we got on the minibus we jumped in and went for it. It's been fun. I've learned to be myself. I learned about some different beliefs."
"I've never listened to rock music before. Different clothes, music and hairstyles but I can appreciate that now. Before I'd have seen that look and heard that music and thought it was just weird."
"If I hadn't come I'd have missed out on getting to know these new friends. At first I wasn't sure what it would have been like but it's been really good; I've enjoyed it."
"I'm taking away that I need to change to be a better person; I've made some friends, had fun and had good experiences. I brought to the weekend friendship. I've learnt that we're all human beings and we all make mistakes."
"Both Christians and Muslims snore!"
How much has your faith been touched/affected/involved in this weekend?
"For me, it wasn't a big part. I'm leaving with this card of commitments so I want it to become a big part."
"It's been a big part. You don't realise how much of you comes from your faith; your conscience, manners, behaviour are part of faith."
