As a volunteer-led movement, Scripture Union is committed to enabling volunteers to both shape and deliver ministry. We want to see children and young people reached and lives changed, through releasing well-equipped volunteers into a fabulous array of ministry opportunities. The vision is to grow the number of volunteers for the expanding programme of specific events and year round engagement through Associate and Affiliate ministry. The Programmes
Scripture Union runs two schemes that involve year round engagement:
- Associate Trusts are normally made up of individuals from a range of churches in a local area who have come together to employ a worker(s) to deliver ministry that shares Scripture Union’s values and ethos to children and young people in local schools and associated contexts. www.scriptureunion.org.uk/associates
- Affiliates are individuals who share the values, ethos and vision of Scripture Union and who, in a volunteer capacity, deliver and/or equip others to deliver ministry in a range of contexts within their local area. www.scriptureunion.org.uk/affiliates
We also run a range of national, international and regional events all of which further Scripture Union’s aims of sharing the good news of Jesus:
- Residential Holidays take around 3,000 children and young people, aged 8 to 18+, on events across the country and include specialist provision for activities such as drama, electronics, sailing and additional needs.
- Missions are normally, but not exclusively, based in seaside towns in Wales, East Anglia and Cornwall and provide outreach opportunities to locals and holiday-makers of all ages.
- Lifepath is a locally-based event for Key Stage 2 pupils (7 to 11s) who come on a school day to a site where they can explore the Christian faith through the story of a local Christian.
- X:site is a bi-monthly, church-based, Saturday evening event that is designed for 8- to 11-year olds to invite their friends to. It’s a Christian event that is fun, fast-paced and evangelistic.
- Frontline is a 1 or 2 week summer placement in Eastern Europe supporting the Scripture Union movements in countries such as Hungary, Romania and Ukraine to run holiday clubs and camps for their children.
