Development Worker (Schools) based in Dorset and Somerset
The focus of my ministry is supporting churches in their work with children and young people, and specifically their links with schools. I took up this post in 2007, having been with SU since 2000, first as an associate schools worker and then on the staff in the South East. Having previously been a teacher and a school chaplain, I am passionate about encouraging Christians to get involved in school communities, and so I work with churches, Christian networks and organisations to help develop strategies, training and resources for ministry.
I am based in Shepton Mallet and my particular passion is in working with 14-18s in education, supporting the development of curriculum and other activities for that age group. I have been so encouraged to see the huge variety of ways in which churches are seeking to serve their local schools. This work relies not only on church leaders and specialist youth and children's workers, but also on a growing number of volunteers. I long to encourage more Christians to consider whether they have gifts to offer in serving their school communities and, as my husband James and I continue to settle into the area, am looking to build strong relationships and seek God's direction in developing a long term strategy.
