SU is a volunteer mission movement. We are run by volunteer trustees and are accountable to a board and council made up of volunteers. At regional level we seek to involve volunteers in shaping the development of our regional ministry among children, young people and families and we seek to support and develop volunteer ministry, both through Scripture Union events and through the week-in, week-out activities of ordinary Christians serving God in their churches and communities.
But to be all this we need volunteers with all sorts of skills to be involved in the ministry. Below are some examples of the sorts of roles that volunteers can fulfil:
Fundraising: Growing the scope of ministry often needs money. We are looking for people who will use their skills to raise finance to help meet the costs of existing ministry and to fund new projects.
Admin support: As well as specific tasks that could be taken on by a volunteer (e.g. our regional holiday bookings are all handled by a volunteer for whom we are very grateful), there are often occasions when having volunteers to send out mailings or to contact supporters would be really helpful.
Bible Enthusiasts: These are people who act as advocates for the Bible in their own church. If your church doesn’t already have someone why not volunteer to be your local Bible enthusiast? We will send you a pack of resources to help you in this role.
SU Church Advocates: We are looking to identify people who could be the local voice and face of Scripture Union in their locality. We will support you and provide you with the resources to do this.
Digital volunteers: We are seeking to grow our involvement with and presence on the web and through social media. Maybe this is an area of expertise you have that you would be willing to use for the movement?
Short term volunteering: Our programme of holdays and missions always needs people to join teams. In particular, we need people who can help with catering, drive minibuses and clean a site for a day. We also, of course, need people to work with the children and young people during the events.
Regular volunteers: Events like X:site, Lifepath, etc. and local schools work and outreach activities all need people who are able to volunteer regularly.
If any of these interest you or you have a skill that you feel we could usefully share with us as a volunteer, then in the first instance send an e-mail to BarbaraR@scriptureunion.org.uk indicating your area of interest.
