Scripture Union has recently launched an 'intern scheme' whereby anyone can take a year out to serve in a partnership arrangement with Scripture Union and (usually) their local church. They would normally, therefore, be based at home serving their local church and/or working alongside a Scripture Union Associate Trust.
This scheme, which we are planning to run here in the North East and Yorkshire region, is open to young people taking a year out (e.g. before or after university), but may equally appeal to those of any age who are at a turning point in life - maybe wanting to explore different avenues for Christian service but with limited experience of Christian ministry outside of their own church.
Interns are important members of the North East & Yorkshire regional team and will be involved in wider regional projects such as Lifepath, X:site and holidays as well as working with SU staff in the region. The global nature of the Scripture Union movement (which serves God in over 120 countries) also provides the opportunity for an international placement as part of an intern's year.
We arrange for each intern to have an appropriate mentor as part of the scheme and, further to this, each receives training from Cliff College, where they study for a Cliff College certificate in Christian Life and Mission.
We are sure that interns will have lots of fun, meet new people, face loads of challenges and at the end of it all will have vital experiences that will equip them for whatever lies ahead!
