While Scripture Union runs many national holidays, there are also some holidays which are specifically aimed at people in a particular region in the country. Here in the North East and Yorkshire region we run a number of regional holidays. Most of these are run in partnership with the North West region.
Breakthrough is an annual New Year holiday for older teenagers (year 10 and above). Each year has a different theme and in 2013-4 the theme will be 'Love Life? Live Life.' Life can be amazing but what about the times when it feels pretty rough and what the world promises doesn’t live up to our expectations? Jesus promised 'life to the full' for those who follow him... how does that work? Click on the link below to find out more and to book or volunteer.
In 2012 the theme of Breakthrough was 'Mission Impossible?'. We live in a broken world, where things are not as they are supposed to be. But what can we do about it? Is this the ultimate ‘Mission Impossible'? As usual a great time was had by all.
Previous to that, at 2011’s Breakthrough we considered how we should live God's story in today’s world. There were opportunities to meet up with old friends and make new ones in our on-site coffee bar; games and activities in the local area; music, drama, consoles, crafts and of course a fantastic New Year’s Eve party. With celebrations, discussions, seminars and small groups, it was a holiday to remember. To read more of the experiences of one of the young people at Breakthrough that year, why not check out the link below?
Every year, we enjoy a great programme of holidays! Most of these take part in the summer although not all. We take part in lots of fun activities, make new friends and explore the Bible, seeking to understand more about who God is and why he is relevant to each of us. We have Regional holidays for everyone aged 9 to 23. You can click on the link below for some individual perspectives about what took place in 2012 and consider whether you might like to be involved in 2013!
In 2013, we had an even bigger and better line-up of holidays than in previous years! Below are some brief details. If you are a young person wishing to go on a holiday yourself in 2014 or a parent wishing to send your children, then check out the North East and Yorkshire holidays page. Next year's programme has not yet been finalised but soon after they are, details will be posted online.

The MIX was a holiday which ran in 2011 and 2012. It was a family holiday with a difference. Unlike the traditional family weekend away in which children, young people and adults generally have their own separate streams of teaching for the whole weekend or where everything is pitched at the level of the child, The MIX sought to explore engaging with families 'intergenerationally' - bringing all ages together to learn from God's word as a whole community in ways that would engage all ages.
While the holiday did not take place in 2013 and we have no plans to do so in 2014, if your church would like to explore this approach for its church weekend away, then please get in touch!
To get an idea of what we were seeking to do with The MIX and to consider if this might be an approach that might work with your church, why not read the report of the 2011 inaugural holiday, which can be found by clicking below?
