Under-5s consultant

I spent ten years teaching in Somerset primary schools and two years at London Bible College (now London School of Theology) before joining Scripture Union initially as evangelist. Based in Bedford, I aim to help churches develop their outreach to children and families by acting as a consultant, meeting training needs and leading events such as holiday clubs and praise parties. I help church members develop their skills so that activities can continue and grow when I move on to work with other churches.

As under-5s specialist, I lead Bible story and craft sessions in local toddler groups and visit groups further afield to advise on developing their ministry to young children and their carers. I also visit foundation stage (nursery and reception) classes to tell Bible stories and teach about what it means to be a Christian. I provide training for churches in working with under 5s and 5–11s, for individual and groups of churches. In addition I coordinate the 'Tiddlywinks' training programme nationally, working in association with denominational advisers to provide day-long under-5s ministry training. My vision for this ministry is to see churches reaching out to their communities, particularly to children and families, to raise awareness of the spiritual needs of children under 5 and enable others to meet these needs and to see children and families growing in their relationship with God.

My vision for this ministry is:

To see churches reaching out to their communities, particularly to children, young people and families,
To raise awareness of the spiritual needs of young children, particularly those under 5,
To meet children in their schools and communities, taking the gospel to them,
To see children, young people and families growing in their relationship with God.
