Holiday Clubs

Holiday Clubs are an important part of Scripture Union's work. Some of these events have been happening for decades whereas others are relatively new. What they each have in common is a desire to work with children in a particular area, often local people, sometimes holidaymakers and sometimes both, with the fantastic news that God loves them!

Summer Missions

There are an amazing range of holiday clubs already running, some run by Scripture Union and some run by local groups using Scripture Union material.

  • Sutton-on-Sea Sutton on Sea is a small seaside town on the East Coast of England, 13 miles north of Skegness. The beach mission has been running each summer since 1886 so last year was our 130th anniversary! We offer 2 weeks of fun, mess and God to local people and holiday-makers; and run afternoon holiday clubs for young people aged 0 to adult in different age groups and adults as well as having fun on the beautiful sandy beach.
  • Abersoch Abersoch mission has been part of summer in Abersoch for over 100 years. Whether you live in Abersoch or are there on holiday, we would love to welcome you at some (or all!) of our events.
  • Southwold Southwold, a picturesque seaside town on the Suffolk Heritage Coast, boasts a working lighthouse, an award-winning pier and a busy harbour. But it’s also home to a summer mission to holiday makers and local people that year after year presents practical, accessible Christianity in many attractive ways. The programme makes the most of both traditional and alternative outreach activities.
  • Port St Mary The Port St Mary Beach Mission runs activities for 0-18 year olds for a fortnight every summer. Activities take place in seven different age groups, and include games, crafts, drama and music, with everything centred around Bible-based themes and an opportunity for children and young people to explore the Christian Faith. In recent years, an average of over 200 children and young people have attended each day's activities.
  • Polzeath Polzeath Family Mission is based around a group of enthusiastic and dynamic Christians from all over Britain who want to share the truth about Jesus Christ to the holiday makers and surfers on the beach. We also aim to encourage and teach the Bible to the young people who come along.
  • Perranporth A superb family beach resort in an area which also attracts walkers, cavers, surfers and sand yachters. The summer mission in Perranporth, known locally as 360, is exploring many ways in which to engage with local people and visiting holidaymakers.
  • Nefyn The mission is based primarily in the town of Nefyn with a satellite team working in the village of Tudweiliog. Our aim is to see the kingdom of God break into all areas of life in Nefyn and Tudweiliog. The mission meets both local people and holidaymakers, running activities for young people aged 4-18 years each day and also a number of family activities in order to see lives changed and nurtured through an encounter with Jesus.
  • Minnis Bay Minnis Bay, west of Margate, is a long sandy bay with rocky and shingle areas. Popular for water sports and seal watching trips, it’s also a great favourite with families as a safe beach. The mission held each summer there is ‘dynamic, fast moving, well established and family-friendly.’
  • Hexham The bustling market town of Hexham overlooks the Tyne Valley in a beautiful area of Northumberland countryside, within easy reach of some fantastic places such as Hadrian’s Wall and the Angel of the North. At the heart of the town’s medieval buildings is the lovely Hexham Abbey, dating from 674AD. The lively summer mission there is an exciting opportunity to work with children and young people in a great setting.
  • Marske We are pleased to announce the launch of ‘Marske Community Week’ – an exciting week of mission to the children of the North East seaside village of Marske and their families. Activities will involve most or all of the following: art and craft, games, sports, sandcastle-making, music, video and discovering stories about Jesus – using the popular Diary of a Disciple book as inspiration.
  • Felpham In 1918 Felpham Mission began on the beach, this work continues today in local churches. Our vision remains the same as when it started, to share the good news of Jesus Christ. Working with local churches as part of the ongoing Christian witness in the area, we aim to show the love of Jesus to the community, and give people the opportunity to learn more about Christianity.

Criccieth is a beautiful town over looking Cardigan Bay, it is a wonderful place to look into the most important matters in life.
  • Aberystwyth West Wales’ main holiday resort, Aberystwyth, has an impressive seafront with Victorian and Edwardian houses rising four and five storeys. The summer sees many tourists sampling the delights of the funicular railway and harbour, hiking hills and lazing on the beach and possibly dodging a shower of rain. The Aberystwyth mission is an exciting week by the sea, filled with old friends and new faces and there is a welcoming family feel on the team.
