Summer Missions

Summer Missions are an important part of Scripture Union's work. Some of these events have been happening for decades whereas others are relatively new. What they each have in common is a desire to reach those in a particular area, sometimes holidaymakers, sometimes local people and sometimes a mixture, with the fantastic news that God loves them!

  • Abersoch Abersoch is an amazing location to be to tell others about an amazing God and to praise him ourselves! Located in North Wales on the Lynn Peninsula, the backdrop is set for an awesome mission! Working in various age groups, from 4 years up to adult, we aim to spread the good news of Jesus, and what he means to us.
  • Aberystwyth West Wales’ main holiday resort, Aberystwyth, has an impressive seafront with Victorian and Edwardian houses rising four and five storeys. The summer sees many tourists sampling the delights of the funicular railway and harbour, hiking hills and lazing on the beach and possibly dodging a shower of rain. The Aberystwyth mission is an exciting week by the sea, filled with old friends and new faces and there is a welcoming family feel on the team.
  • Sutton-on-Sea Sutton on Sea is a small seaside town on the East Coast of England, 13 miles north of Skegness. The beach mission has been running each summer since 1886 and offers 2 weeks of fun, mess and God to local people and holiday-makers. We run afternoon holiday clubs for young people aged 3 to 20 in different age groups and adults as well as having fun on the beautiful sandy beach. We meet approximately 120 people a day, with about 250 young people attending over the course of the fortnight.
  • Southwold Southwold, a picturesque seaside town on the Suffolk Heritage Coast, boasts a working lighthouse, an award-winning pier and a busy harbour. But it’s also home to a summer mission to holiday makers and local people that year after year presents practical, accessible Christianity in many attractive ways. The programme makes the most of both traditional and alternative outreach activities.
  • Sheringham Sheringham Beach Mission is back under the new name of Sheringham Beach Life! Churches Together in Sheringham supported by Scripture Union are pleased to announce 4 days of fun packed activity, focusing on the I AM statements of Jesus.
  • Port St Mary Port St Mary is a small town in the south of the Isle of Man. Founded in 1901, the mission is a well-established event with excellent support from local authorities and churches. Since the decline of tourism in the area, the mission now works almost entirely with local children and young people, some of whom travel from other parts of the island. Around 250 children and young people attend daily to enjoy activities including games, crafts, drama, interactive teaching, music and outings.
  • Polzeath Do you want to be used by God this summer? You do? Then why not come and join the team in Polzeath, north Cornwall for PFM (Polzeath Family Mission). • Nefyn and Tudweiliog The mission is based primarily in the town of Nefyn with a satellite team working in the village of Tudweiliog. Our aim is to see the kingdom of God break into all areas of life in Nefyn and Tudweiliog. The mission meets both local people and holidaymakers, running activities for young people aged 4-18 years each day and also a number of family activities in order to see lives changed and nurtured through an encounter with Jesus.
  • Morden Park The bandstand at Morden Park is a green space in a dense cluster of 1930s suburban houses in the London borough of Merton. Each summer it’s the focal point for a lively fast-paced mission providing a fun context in which children can learn about Jesus.
  • Minnis Bay Minnis Bay, west of Margate, is a long sandy bay with rocky and shingle areas. Popular for water sports and seal watching trips, it’s also a great favourite with families as a safe beach. The mission held each summer there is ‘dynamic, fast moving, well established and family-friendly.’
  • Hexham The bustling market town of Hexham overlooks the Tyne Valley in a beautiful area of Northumberland countryside, within easy reach of some fantastic places such as Hadrian’s Wall and the Angel of the North. At the heart of the town’s medieval buildings is the lovely Hexham Abbey, dating from 674AD. The lively summer mission there is an exciting opportunity to work with children and young people in a great setting.
  • Felpham In 1918 Felpham Mission began on the beach, this work continues today in local churches. Our vision remains the same as when it started, to share the good news of Jesus Christ. Working with local churches as part of the ongoing Christian witness in the area, we aim to show the love of Jesus to the community, and give people the opportunity to learn more about Christianity.
