Scripture Union works all over India; however the Action Abroad programme is centred in the Tamil Nadu region of Southern India.
This placement is unique, in the way that you will spend time at a number of locations, some of which are below:
Here you will be involved in schools work, taking assemblies, holding lessons and generally building relationships with the children. You’ll have loads of opportunities to teach action songs and do some crazy dramas. Some of the schools will be English speaking, however when placed in Tamil schools, translators will be made available
Environmental & Adventure Centre:
Located at Avalanche, 90 minutes from Ooty. It is located in 16 acres of forestland on the shores of Avalanche Lake, deep in the Nilgiri Hills. Here you could be leading all sorts of exciting activities from hiking through the forest and gorge walking up exciting mountain streams. On top of the challenge of living a very basic life (no electricity) you could be leading bible studies, worship & drama sessions for the camps that visit the site on a weekly basis.
Vacation Bible Schools (VBS):
These take place all over India and last for approximately 10 days. These are very intensive but very rewarding. You will be a Director of the camp as well as been on stage allot and in charge of more than 50 children! Your singing, acting & creativity will be put to the test.

Whatever work you get involved in, whether it be singing songs, leading a bible study, etc, the only qualification needed is a heart that loves the Lord and is willing to muck in! In return you will receive valuable experience and insight into developing cultures and first hand involvement in overseas mission. The experience is life changing and challenging.

Duration & Cost
Placements start in the January of each year and last for 5 months, with the option of staying on for an additional month to travel & see some more of this beautiful country.
As a volunteer you need to arrange your own support, which includes airfare, accommodation, food and internal travel.
