The mission at Port St Mary, a small town in the south of the island, was founded in 1901 and is a well-established event supported by local authorities and churches. The mission now works almost entirely with local children and young people who travel from other parts of the island. Around 250 children and young people attend daily to take part in activities such as games, crafts, drama, interactive teaching, music and outings.

Summer Missions

Most of the team stay in the mission house right beside the beach. The house can accommodate 1 to 6 people per room and has plenty of showers! Junior team members stay in a nearby church and have two days of training before the mission begins. Experienced and new team members are allocated to one of six age groups (0 to 18 years) so that new team members can discover their gifts as they learn from others.

A typical team member's day includes two or three sessions with their age group, team time for worship, prayer, preparation and Bible study, meals and two hours’ free time. The middle Saturday is a free day and a great opportunity to see something of the island.

Scripture Union has a strong presence on the island with five staff and up to 10 gap year volunteers and interns who work in many of the churches and primary schools and all secondary schools. As many of the staff and volunteers serve on the beach mission follow up with beach mission contacts is easier.
