Want to volunteer but not sure which role will suit you best? Hopefully this short guide will be the help you need!
A team member may be involved in face-to-face work with children or young people, leading a small group and helping out in general duties to keep the event run smoothly.
As this role may have some direct contact or sole supervision of children and young people, you will be asked to complete an Enhanced DBS Disclosure Application. Where no current, and satisfactory, DBS is in place for the Team Member application prior to the start of the event this will affect your place on team. Further information on the DBS process is located below.
Non UK residents will be asked to complete an equivalent of a DBS application from the country of residence.
Who is this role suitable for?
If you are under the age of 18 then please see the Junior Team section, or if you would like to volunteer on a mission in a support capacity then please see the Support Team section.
Specifically for those who are between 15 and 17.
Please note, not all events are able to accept Junior Team so it is a good idea to contact the event leader before applying.
A Junior Team member will benefit from the opportunity of working alongside a team member to help deliver face-to-face discussions and activities with the children and young people on the event. A Junior Team member’s duties will also involve helping out with daily items to help the event run smoothly.
Prior to being accepted on to team, we will need to obtain parental consent. If you want to volunteer for Frontline and are under 18 you should select the Team Member option.
For those over 18 on Summer Missions, X:site or Lifepath events who have no direct contact or sole supervision of young people e.g. mission team caterers, X:site stewards. If you are under the age of 18 then please see the Junior Team section.
If you are unsure about which role to choose then select Team Member.

Enhnaced DBS Applications
As part of your application you may be asked to apply for an Enhanced DBS Disclosure. This is in accordance with Scripture Union’s safeguarding policies and is dependent
on the type of role that you apply for, most commonly the Team Member role. We will administer all DBS applications in accordance with the following:

Dependant on the role selected an Enhanced DBS may be required to be applied for as per Scripture Union’s Safeguarding policy.
This service is provided to the Scripture Union by our preferred eDBS partner, Atlantic Data Ltd a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) registered Umbrella Body. This service is supplied to the Scripture Union by agreement and in accordance with the requirements of the DBS, the Code of Practice above and the Data Protection Act 1974.

Code of Practice:
Disclosure information is information contained in criminal record certificates under the Police Act 1997. The DBS Code of Practice sets out obligations for everyone participating in the Disclosure process and is intended to ensure that personal information is:
Scripture Union fully complies with the Code in using, storing, retaining and disposing of Disclosures and Disclosure information. Strict guidelines and controls ensure information is protected throughout the process.

The information you supply within the application process, subject to the Data Protection Act 1998 principles and other relevant legislation, may be shared with other relevant professional, statutory and regulatory bodies or any other persons deemed necessary by “Atlantic Data” to assess the applicant’s suitability for the role that they have volunteered for.
Atlantic Data will attempt to verify your identity using a third party (Experian). The details you supply will be checked against any particulars on any database (public or otherwise) to which they have access to. A record of the search will be retained, but not visible to other parties or affect your credit record
