The Youth Encounter centre

It was very useful to study here 'first hand' rather than reading about other faiths. It was much more effective

Part of the aim of Youth Encounter is to equip Youth Leaders and Church Leaders to work with Christian and Muslim young people. In the past this has happened at a variety of locations around the country. Whilst some of this will happen in different locations most of it will now happen at the Youth Encounter Centre.

The Youth Encounter Centre is located in The Springfield Centre, Moseley close to The Stratford Road in Sparkhill, Birmingham. Sparkhill is a predominatly Asian area with a vibrant shopping centre which includes Islamic bookshops, Asian sweet shops and Sari shops. Part of the experience for students who come to the Youth Encounter Centre is the opportunity to visit the Stratford Road and experience life in an Asian area of a British city.

As well as visiting the Stratford Road students at the Centre are also able to visit places of worship of other faiths. There is a Mosque a Gudwara and a Hindu Temple all close to the Centre and with whom we have good relationships.

The first students to use the Youth Encounter Centre were students on the Centre for Youth Ministry degree course 'Youth & Community Work and Applied Theology'. As well as having students from the degree course we also provide lectures for a masters module. Other organisations using the Youth Encounter Centre include CMS and Birmingham Diocese.
