Ordering

  • How to find a book

All books and multimedia items published by Scripture Union (England & Wales) can be found in our online shop. If you cannot find a title, it may be out of print or not yet available.

You can find books by browsing the categories in the online shop, and also in relevant parts elsewhere on our websites. This is the best route if you don't know the title.

If you know the title or author, it may be easier to find by using the search function here (or on the navigation bar on the left) Product Search Just type the title or the author and your book should be one of the first few results.

Many of our books have sample chapters online, so you can check it's for you before buying.

  • How to find a Bible Reading Guide for yourself or someone you know

Engaging with the Bible is right at the heart of Scripture Union's mission and we've developed a wide range of guides and resources to help you do just that.   • How to order

Add the book to your shopping basket with the Add to Basket button. The basket total will then appear on the right of each page. Once you have all the books you want, click on the View Basket button to go through the checkout sequence.

You can remove books or alter the number of copies in the basket - click on Calculate Total to recalculate the total costs when you've done this.

  • Do I need to login?

No, you don't need to login to use our online bookshop. However, to be able to assist us in ensuring that your details are kept as up to date as possible as well as speeding up the checkout process, we would advise you to register or if you are a returning customer and have already registered then to login. The shop will also remember what's in your basket between visits.

  • I’ve forgotten my password!

Your password will be the same as you last set it on the Scripture Union website. If you cannot remember your password, there's a "Forgotten password" link which will create a new temporary password and email it to you. You can then change your password once you have logged in by choosing the "Change my preferences" link at the top of each page.

  • Can I order by fax or phone?

If you have difficulty in completing your order online, you can telephone our customer services team on 01908 856006 (outside the UK call +44 1908 856006).

We will be available to take your order between 9.00am and 5.00pm Mondays to Fridays (excluding bank holidays). Outside these times, please leave a message and we will return your call at the next opportunity. You can also fax an order to us on 01908 856020.

  • Can I order on invoice?

Unfortunately we are unable to supply any items without prior payment. However, we do offer a pro-forma invoice service.

You can place an order with us and we will send out an invoice so that you can pass it on to the relevant person / department for payment. Once we have received the payment in to the office we will the despatch the order as per our standard delivery or as previously advised.

  • Can I order from outside the UK?

Yes, you certainly can order from overseas. Please ensure you choose the correct country during the checkout process.

  • Who will process my order?

Your order will be processed by Scripture Union, Trinity House, Opal Court, Opal Drive, Fox Milne, Milton Keynes, MK15 0DF. We are a registered charity in England and Wales (no. 213422) and a limited company (39828). Our VAT number is GB 233 473 180.

If you have a query about your order, please email mailorder@scriptureunion.org.uk quoting your order number.

Orders are dispatched on our behalf by Marston Book Services and deliveries are made via Royal Mail, Yodel and APC.

Payments are processed on our behalf by Secure Trading Ltd.

Emails are processed on our behalf by Vertical Response Inc.

Each of these partners takes the same steps to protect your personal information that we do, and will not disclose this to other organisations.

Help with Electronic Products

Ordering electronic (downloadable) products

Some of our titles are available as downloadable products, including individual songs and music CD collections. These are sold on the understanding that they are for individual use only (that is, having purchased a copy it is for your personal use and cannot be passed on to other people).

If you order from this range, once payment for the order is complete, you will receive an email, in addition to your order confirmation email, which contains a link allowing you to download the product. If you do not receive this email, or you have not downloaded the product within the time period allowed, please contact mailorder@scriptureunion.org.uk with details of your order number.

What methods of payment are accepted?

  • Cheques

We are happy to accept cheque payments for any order placed with Scripture Union.

If you wish to order by phone we will be able to provide a pro-forma invoice with instructions as where to send your cheque.

Otherwise, create an order through the website by adding items to your basket in the usual way.

At the checkout you can print the screen and then send your order and cheque to:

  • Credit / Debit Cards

Scripture Union are pleased to accept payment using the following credit or debit cards: Visa Credit, Visa Debit, Maestro and MasterCard.

Payments are processed securely through Secure Trading Ltd at the time you order.

  • Card Verification Values (CVV)

Payments via the Scripture Union website are processed on our behalf by Secure Trading Ltd.

For your safety and security, the payment process requires that you enter your card verification number, if one is available.
The verification number is a 3 digit number printed on the right hand side of the signature strip on the back of your card.

If your card does not have a verification number, try another card or enter the number 000, or if you are purchasing from abroad then you can enter part of your ZIP number.

  • BACS Payments

If you have received a pro-forma invoice from Scripture Union then you should pay by cheque. Unfortunately we do not operate an electronic funds transfer service. If you wish to contact us in relation to this type of payment, please call customer services on 01908 856006.

  • PayPal

Unfortunately we do not have the ability to accept payments via PayPal. We are looking in to this option as a possible payment method in the future.

  • Discounts

Discount prices apply when you add a book to the shopping basket, and some only apply with certain combinations of books in the basket (e.g. a buy two, get one free offer). The book details always show the normal price.

Some products also have a quantity discount, which is applied to the shopping basket when sufficient quantities of qualifying titles are added to the basket

There may be a small rounding error as we apply the discount to any VAT you are charged, but this will always be in your favour. The price in the basket will be the price we charge you. If you feel we have not applied a discount correctly, please contact us and we will investigate.

  • Gift Vouchers & Book Tokens

Unfortunately we do not have the ability to accept Gift Vouchers or Book Tokens for purchases of Scripture Union products.

When will my card be debited?

Your chosen payment card will be debited upon completing the checkout process through the Scripture Union website shop and will show within a short timeframe on to your account statement.

My card has been declined!

Unfortunately transactions are declined and this may be for a variety of reasons:

Your card details may have been incorrect  - Please replace your order and complete the shopping checkout process again, or you may elect to contact our customer services on 01908 856006 in order to place an order over the phone.

New Card Details – It may be that your card has not been activated. Please contact your card issuer to do this.

You may have inadequate funds in your account - Please check with your bank, then go to the Declined Orders page and click on the Resubmit my orders button.

The bank may have carried out a random security test - If you can see no valid reason for your card to decline it is likely that you will need to speak to your bank in order to clear the security status for Scripture Union.
Once this has been cleared please replace your order and complete the shopping checkout process again, or you may elect to contact our customer services on 01908 856006 in order to place an order over the phone.

  • Standard delivery

Please note the following products are free of postage & packaging charges:

    • Bible reading subscriptions
    • Electronic downloads
    • Donations

Where an order includes one or more of the above items plus additional products to which postage & packaging charges apply, you will only be charged the relevant postage & packing for those additional products.

Scripture Union reserves the right to alter or waive the carriage costs without prior notice, though the prevailing rates will always be displayed on this page.

Free postage and packing within the UK will only be applicable to the total value of the additional products if they are greater than £12.

For all orders that are not subscription based within the UK, if you choose our Standard Delivery option, we aim for delivery within 5-7 working days from despatch.

Orders for delivery to Europe generally take 7-10 working days.

For other countries, please allow 10-20 working days.

 

  • Express delivery

An Express Delivery option is also available for UK customers at a fixed cost of £4 per order, which will then be delivered within 3 working days from despatch.

Please note that Express delivery is a 'signed for delivery' and will require someone to be at the delivery destination during working hours 8.30am to 6.00pm.

Printed products and Subscriptions are VAT free.
All other items are VAT inclusive.

We're sorry but we cannot refund any VAT for orders where this tax would not normally apply. If you have been charged VAT on your order then and would like to find out how to claim your VAT then please visit the HMRC webiste

Deliveries

  • How long will my order take?

Orders placed via our website will be automatically downloaded and despatched on the next available working day. Therefore, if you place an order during Monday, your order will be downloaded and sent for despatch on Tuesday. If you order during Friday, Saturday or Sunday, your order will be downloaded and sent for despatch on Monday (excluding Bank Holidays in which case it will be the Tuesday). We aim to process all orders within 2 working days of receipt.

For all orders that are not subscription based within the UK, if you choose our Standard Delivery option, we aim for delivery within 5-7 working days from despatch.

A UK Express Delivery option is also available at a fixed cost of £4 per order, which will then be delivered within 3 working days from despatch. Please note that Express delivery is a 'signed for delivery' and will require someone to be at the delivery destination during working hours 8.30am to 6.00pm.


Orders for delivery to Europe generally take 7-10 working days.

For all of our subscription based Bible reading guides and Light curriculum materials we despatch will despatch them in good time to ensure the timely arrival of the next issue. Bible reading and Light subscriptions are bulk mailed out as follows:

January – March quarter - sent out during November
April – June quarter - sent out during February
July - September quarter - sent out during May
October – December quarter – sent out during August

If you subscribe starting with the current issue (or one that is starting imminently), for example by placing an order on 1st January for the Bible reading guides or Light materials starting in January (or two weeks prior to the start of the quarter), we will despatch the notes as soon as possible via our standard postal methods stated above.

Print on Demand titles can take slightly longer for delivery as we may not hold physical stock at the point in time that your order was placed. In this instance your order will be printed and sent to you as quickly as possible. This process can take up to a maximum of 10 working days extra to the order despatch times quoted above.

  • My order hasn’t arrived yet!

From time to time there may well be a delay with a delivery, if this does happen please do contact us on

+44 1908 856006 so that we can trace your order. We will then be able to provide you with additional information or provide replacement order if required.

  • Some of my order is damaged or faulty

We work hard to ensure that the items you receive are in top quality condition. However, despite our best efforts sometimes items damaged in transit or have a fault as a result of the manufacturing process.

If any items in your order damaged or faulty, please contact us by calling our customer services team on 01908 856006 (outside the UK call +44 1908 856006) or if you prefer email mailorder@scriptureunion.org.uk

We will be happy to replace the order for you and will provide a FREEPOST address to return the faulty items.

Please note that in the event that the damaged / faulty item is replaced and the original does not arrive back with within a 14 day period we do reserve the right to charge you for the replacement item.

  • I have received duplicate or incorrect items

We work hard to ensure your order is correct. However, sometimes orders are incorrectly picked or inputted in error. If any items in your order duplicated or incorrect, please contact us by calling our customer services team on 0845 07 06 006 (outside the UK call +44 1908 856006) or if you prefer email mailorder@scriptureunion.org.uk

We will be happy to investigate and correct your order and will provide a FREEPOST address to return any un-required items.

Please note that in the event that the duplicated/ incorrect item is replaced and the original does not arrive back with within a 14 day period we do reserve the right to charge you for the replacement item.

  • I have received some but not all of my order

Normally all your items will be dispatched at the same time. However, in the case that an item is out of stock in our warehouse we will notify you by email. Once stock has arrived the remainder of your order will be despached.

There are also some items that will be required to send under separate cover, usually Print on Demand titles, and these will be noted on your despatch / order confirmation.

Cancellations and Returns


 

  • How do I cancel an order?

You can cancel within 7 working days of submitting your order by giving written notice to Scripture Union or by contacting us over the phone 01908 856006.

If the items have already been dispatched, we will treat this as a returned item rather than a cancellation (see below). If the items have not been despatched, you will receive a full refund of the cost within 30 days.

  • Can I return an item?

Yes, you may.

Faulty or damaged Items:

 Where a product (including e-products) is faulty or damaged item, please return it to us as soon as possible (within 30 days), together with the delivery document, and we will arrange for a suitable replacement to be despatched to you, or if you prefer, a full refund.

 If you are experiencing a technical error or any other problem with your e-purchase then please visit our digital media FAQs page prior to contacting us as the solution may be found there.

 

Unwanted items:

Even though we work extremely hard to ensure your order is correct, from time to time an incorrect item may be delivered. In this event please do contact us asap and we will ensure the correct items are sent to you urgently. Unless advised otherwise, please send the original items back to us within 14 days from Scripture Union sending the replacement products to you. Where we do not receive the original item back we do reserve the right to charge you for the item.

If you wish to return a product (including dated materials) for any other reason, please do so within 7 days of receiving the goods and we will be happy to refund your money (excluding postage and packing costs) as long as the item is of saleable quality and accompanied by the delivery documents. In items are received in a non-saleable condition we will only exchange the items.

 We will refund the balance within 30 days of receiving notice of intent and returned products.

I purchased my items via a Christian bookshop can I return or exchange them with Scripture Union?

 

  • Faulty products

 Yes, we will be happy to exchange and faulty item that you purchased within your local Christian bookshop. All you need to do is return the items to the below address with a covering letter:

  •  Exchanges

We will be happy assist you. Please contact our customer services team on 01908 856006 in the first instance as there may be an additional amount to pay if the exchange is not of the same value.

If the item to be exchanged with is of less value than the original, then we will not be able to offer a refund as your sale of goods contract is with the store that you purchased from. We can however, still exchange the item for you. 


  • Returns

 If you would like to return an item for a refund then please return to the store that you purchased it through. Unfortunately, as the sale was not through Scripture Union we are unable to offer a refund.

Are my personal details safe?

Scripture Union takes every precaution possible to ensure your personal details are kept safe. We will only use information that we have collected about you lawfully, in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. Find out more about our privacy policies here

Wherever you are asked to provide personal details, either when registering, logging on, or completing our order or donation forms online, you will see the closed padlock and the address bar on your browser will turn green. This indicates that we are using industry standard SSL encryption protocols to ensure that information you give us cannot be read by anyone else.

We will never sell, lease or give your personal details to a third party except where it is necessary to complete an order (see Who will process my order above). We may occasionally send you emails or postal information about Scripture Union products and ministries that we believe may be of interest to you. You can choose not to receive such information when you register or in the preferences on each order, and you can subsequently change your choices in the My Preferences section of the website.

People frequently ask us how to go about getting published. Our policy is not to accept unsolicited manuscripts and we cannot enter into correspondence about unpublished work, neither can we return or be responsible for the safety of any manuscripts that we do receive.
