A group of pupils from Kirkby Fleetham school have been used as backing singers on a new CD set for worldwide release. Reach Up!, which is released later this month has been produced by international mission movement Scripture Union to support their popular Light resources for church groups.
The recording of the children was made at New Life Baptist Church in Northallerton, and the production at West Orange Studios in Preston by Scripture Union field staff Piers Lane and Ruth Wills.
Teacher Catherine Lawton, who leads the choir at Kirkby Fleetham, was pleased that the children had been given the opportunity to be a part of the CD. ‘The choir have never done anything like this before and they were so excited,’ said Catherine. ‘It was a fantastic experience for them and extra special for the school because it celebrates its 150th anniversary this year.’
The children appear on the double CD which features 14 songs ranging from quiet and mediative, to upbeat pop music and comes with full backing tracks, sheet music, PowerPoint and overhead projector masters. Piers says: It’s a fantastic resource for anyone working with children.’
