Over 100 children from 40 different primary schools took part in the first-ever Scripture Union X:site mission on Saturday (May 22). The event, which took place in Leeds, brought together children aged 7-11 from across the city for a memorable evening full of live music, games and crafts. The event also signalled strong unity within the churches of Leeds, with 13 different churches joining the team.
The event has been hailed as a major success with the children already planning which of their friends to invite for the next event in July and many logging on to the brand-new X:site website to share their jokes, comments and prayers with other users. One enthusiastic girl, called Bethany, left X:site announcing ‘X:site was absolutely brilliant. I had so much fun!’
Julie Forster, Scripture Union’s worker for West Yorkshire, was pleased with the first event ‘We realised there was nothing for children of this age who are connected to the church, whether it be at Sunday school or a midweek club. The first event showed that X:site brings together local children from all walks of life, gives them an entertaining and lasting experience and helps them to feel part of the wider Christian community. I can’t wait for the next one!’
