Moving school? Don't panic!
Date: 11/05/2004

New research has confirmed that children can become depressed when they move from primary to secondary school. The stark reality of this finding is that young children can suffer from mental health problems.

But the anxiety felt by children as they prepare to move school is something that Scripture Union has known about for a number of years. That’s why they produced a book called It’s Your Move!, designed to help primary schools and their final-year pupils prepare for the big move. The book contains wise advice, puzzles, fun facts, useful information and real-life stories that help children get ready to move on with confidence. Now in its fourth year, It’s Your Move! has proved a staggering success, with over 300,000 copies being presented to primary schools leavers.

Scripture Union Head of Schools Ministry Emlyn Williams believes that, working together with schools, It’s Your Move! can play a vital role. ‘It’s Your Move! is one of very few resources to help children through this potentially difficult time. Schools already work hard to make the transition to secondary school a good one, and we believe that this book makes a positive contribution to that work.

The step from primary to secondary school can undoubtedly be a stressful time for children. It’s Your Move! is one way of making those nervous last few weeks a bit more bearable.
