Media release: Following in the footsteps

Vicky Calver is following in the footsteps of father Clive and brother Gavin by releasing her debut book.

Illusions of Grandeur: Rethinking Success in the Light of the Story of Joseph, published by Scripture Union, explores the Biblical story of Joseph to see how it can help 18 to 35 year-olds deal with success, or face up to the pain and frustrations of a lack of it. Vicky’s own life experiences are evident throughout: ‘Like others in their 20s and 30s, I had been led to believe that I could do anything with my life, she says. I had worked overseas with those living with HIV/AIDS but then back in the UK I found myself unemployed and disillusioned! The book grew out of my struggles to understand what really counts in life. Writing Illusions of Grandeur was an incredibly challenging spiritual experience.’

Vicky, who works for Global Connections – the evangelical network for world mission – is a volunteer with AFC Wimbledon and a regular speaker at events such as Spring Harvest, and she is excited about her first book: ‘I hope it will be a source of encouragement and challenge to others, and particularly my peers, who are seeking to authentically live out their Christian faith in our celebrity-oriented world’.
