Scripture Union training benefits many hundred people who work with children and young people. It’s important to equip, encourage and motivate front line leaders and workers if ministry is to develop. Courses are run by SU ministry specialists across the country – and those who attend say how much they appreciate them.
Sunday 28: Focus for today and throughout the week
During the coming months Scripture Union trainers will run courses for a wide range of ministry needs – those working in schools, in churches, with children, with small groups . . . Preparation takes many hours and delivery uses lots of energy!
Monday 29
GIVE THANKS for the partnership between Scripture Union and Cliff College that has delivered the Diploma in Children’s Evangelism and Nurture training to more than 100 graduates, who are now involved in ministry with children and young people. SU’s Piers Lane has just taken up a full-time tutor’s post at Cliff.
Tuesday 30
Volunteer Ruth Oldfield is working with staff member Ruth Wills to develop a training
programme that can be rolled out nationally for those who want to enthuse their churches creatively with the Bible. It’s all part of Scripture Union’s developing Bible Enthusiasts programme.
Wednesday 1
Alastair Wood, Scripture Union’s Training Programme Manager, is working through how best to serve church leaders who are using Light, SU’s Bible-based learning material for children and youth in their own contexts. He and his network of trainers long to walk with leaders through the way they arrange services, so that they can be more family and children-focused.
Thursday 2
Growing support for new expressions of church – groups who meet in pubs, supermarkets, garden centres and even under canvas – is one of Scripture Union’s aims, as we work to inspire and resource leaders in exploring ways forward with people who have no church connections.
Friday 3
Scripture Union staff workers, Associates and volunteer trainers strive to serve churches,
schools workers and children’s leaders in their local areas with training programmes, and one of Alastair Wood’s aims is to provide professional support for them.
Saturday 4: International Focus
Madagscar: Majunga is very heavily Islamic and Scripture Union has been trying to make an impact through distribution of literature. GIVE THANKS for approval of building permit for a literature centre. Now funds are needed.
