First Tuesday Prayers - 1 May

Thank you for taking the time to pray for Scripture Union’s ministry today

Managing the Movement

The Management Group is the operational executive team responsible for management of SU staff, resources and activities across England and Wales.

Please pray that God will enable the Management Group, working together, to make wise decisions that will enable growth of ministry scale and impact and that will ensure effectiveness, efficiency and legal compliance in all that we do.

Members of the Management Group are:

• Alan Charter – Field Ministry Team Leader and acting Publishing Team Leader

• Sarah Mist – Supporter Relations Team Leader

• Dave Cooper – Supporter and Volunteer Services Team Leader

• Sue Winning – Professional Services Team Leader

• David Thorpe – Managing Director (and Team Leader for the Management Group)

Please pray for Alan, Sarah, Dave, Sue and David as they lead their teams.

 A Professional Service

The Professional Services team provides a range of core professional support functions that enable the effective running of the Movement and ensures compliance with charity and statutory requirements.

Thank God for this small team of staff and volunteers who provide these important, but often unseen, functions. Pray especially for:

• Ian Gooding as he manages the provision of IT and facilities services. Pray for God’s wisdom for Ian to identify cost-effective technological solutions which best enable SU’s ministry.

• Joylette Hudson as she provides an HR service for all staff. Pray for Joylette as she helps to bring together a well-resourced and committed team of staff to deliver SU’s aims.

• Dave Parsons as he leads the operational activities of the finance team. Pray that the team is effective in providing a high quality service which solidly underpins SU’s operations.

 Good Governance

The Board, Council, Nominations Committee, Audit Committee and International Relations Committee are key parts of SU’s governance structure and are essential for making sure that SU is set up and running well.

Thank God for each person involved in these volunteer leadership roles.

Pray especially for:

• Bishop Paul Butler, President, and Keith Civval, Chair of Trustees, as they lead SU’s Council and Board respectively.

• The Nominations Committee as they meet on 9 May. Pray for wisdom as they consider applications received from people wishing to serve as a Council member or Trustee.

• The International Relations Committee as they meet on 11 May. Pray for wisdom as they consider how best to allocate available funds to support SU’s ministry internationally.

• The Board, comprising eight Trustees and the Leadership Team, as they meet on 21 May. The agenda is already looking very busy – pray that individually and corporately they will discern and know God’s heart on all of the issues before them.

 Supporter Relations

Give thanks for the way God has guided us over the last few months as we have developed the Supporter Relations team work plan. We thank God for his wisdom as we ensure our activities for the next year are in line with Scripture Union’s mission and vision.

Please thank God for the positive response to the Easter reflection on WordLive.org – with over 9,500 people using the daily reflection and meeting with God in this way over Easter.

Thank God for the inspirational and encouraging stories we have received in response to the mailing sent to a selection of supporters in March. The stories tell of the many ways SU has supported each person in their faith journey and continues to do so.

Please pray with us as an appeal for financial support will start arriving on people’s doormats today. We are asking for support for the many exciting events and activities planned that will ensure God’s good news is passed on to children and young people during the 2012 games this summer.

Please pray for the team working on the marketing campaign for our newly improved Light resources. As we seek to increase the number of churches using these Bible-based resources for their children’s work at church, please pray for guidance to get the right messages to the right people.

Thank you for your prayers and support
