Josiah Spiers Benevolent Fund

Fund set up to help ex-SU staff in need

The Josiah Spiers Benevolent Fund has been set up and formally registered with the Charity Commissioners. Its aim is ‘to give financial and other practical assistance to former Scripture Union staff members and widows of former staff members who are in need’. The Fund is named after the pioneer who led the first beach mission in Llandudno back in 1868.

The five trustees (a ’mix’ of former SU Council members and SU staff in retirement) are meeting shortly to consider the criteria for assessing need, so that the Fund can begin to make grants (probably not exceeding £500) to individuals as appropriate. They will also be discussing how to make contact with all former SU staff now in retirement, so that they are aware of the Fund’s existence and overall purpose.
