‘Polzeath is a beautiful Cornish surfing destination where God’s creation powers are evident,’ describes team leader Alison Withers. She says Polzeath is even amazing when it rains!
The Polzeath Family Mission has been running for over fifty years. The programme is a creative blend of the traditional alongside the new. There are daily road shows on the beach, a drop-in coffee house, face painting, circus skills, Bible studies, barbecues, films, live entertainment and more – all adding up to a variety of engaging activities catering for 3s to 18s and their parents.
‘Team come expecting to serve and give,’ says Alison. ‘However, they are amazed at what God does in their own lives – helping them grow in their faith and gain Christian friends for life as they serve God together, building fantastic relationships with those who come along.’
Seeing young people make commitments and grow in their faith ‘makes us scream with excitement,’ says Alison.
They have other memories too. In 2008 the weather was dreadful – and they’ll never forget the marquee blowing down in the gales! But just as memorable was the child who came back able to recite all the memory verses from the year before, and having the church so jam packed that people were outside praising God.
‘It’s challenging work and very demanding but giving people the opportunity to respond to God’s love and supporting them in their Christian growth is a very rewarding experience!’ concludes Alison.
