Wayne Dixon, who is a Scripture Union schools worker in Maidenhead, Windsor & Slough shows how he has used It’s Your Move! as part of a 3 part package to develop links between churches and schools and to help those children moving up to secondary school education...
'We visit the schools in our area to present the It’s Your Move! books in the summer term. Here in Slough year 6 pupils attended Christmas and Easter events through one of 3 churches. The churches are also involved with the presentations of It’s Your Move! where around 1600 books are given out to pupils from about 30 schools, many of these pupils have previously attended one of the Christmas and Easter events.
These events have been running for 12 years now and for the last 5 since It’s Your Move! came out, so a real relationship has developed.
Then, on my visits to the senior schools during the autumn term I’m able to make that extra connection, and these 'little fish in a bigger pond' see a familiar face in those early weeks.
This has, without doubt, strengthened links with both primary schools and churches, and more importantly with the pupils. It’s great!
My experience over the past 5 years is that the pupils really appreciate and value the book. It’s a good read – informative – practical – and just such a good tool that can lead to other things...'
