Scripture Union Holidays: Core Values

Whilst each of our camps is unique in its own way, we maintain several core values they all share - regardless of location, activity or age group. It's what makes them Scripture Union Holidays.

God

At the root all that we offer is our passion to give young people the opportunity to explore the Bible, learn more about God and discover his relevance to them today. So every holiday will devote part of each day to looking at the Bible together. How this is done will vary depending on the age group and facilities available. But we ensure all teaching is engaging and relevant and gives the opportunity to respond in an appropriate way.

Fun

Holidays are all about fun! And fun can be defined in many different ways. That's why we offer a wide range of options, and many holidays provide different activities within them. Some adventures focus on a particular activity, such as sailing, karting or drama, whilst others are a mixture of games, craft, sports and excursions. Attendees are welcome to do activities they already love or challenge themselves with new ones. Of course, there will be lots of opportunities to make new friends. Common to all of them is the Fun-Factor!

Safety

Safety is of paramount importance to us. All leaders are appropriately vetted (including a CRB check) and given specific training. There is a ratio of at least one adult to every four young people on every holiday. All activities are subject to sensible risk assessment to ensure that the chances of accidents are kept to a minimum. Any specialised activities are AALS licensed and carry the correct level of insurance. We carefully select holiday locations that are suitable and safe.

Affordability

We do not run our holidays to make a profit. In actual fact, we try to keep our prices as low as possible, and grants are available to those who need help. You can also donate to a fund to help others attend. (Please see our Grants section at the back.) Having many volunteers, who contribute to the cost, also helps us provide excellent value for money.
