The bustling market town of Hexham overlooks the Tyne Valley in a beautiful area of Northumberland countryside, within easy reach of some fantastic places such as Hadrian’s Wall and the Angel of the North. At the heart of the town’s medieval buildings is the lovely Hexham Abbey, dating from 674AD. The lively summer mission there is an exciting opportunity to work with children and young people in a great setting.
Top of the agenda for the team is their desire to show just how much fun you can have learning about Jesus. The holiday club – generally using the latest Scripture Union holiday club material – gives children and young people encouragement and practical help in understanding the Bible and its relevance to them. This is done through a creative mix of games, crafts, discussion and so much more. Team member Peter Smith says that one of the most exciting recent aspects of the mission is the dramatic increase in local team membership. All the Hexham churches are fully committed to the mission; they welcome the incoming team warmly and provide excellent accommodation and food. Their involvement has meant that the team have started to run special events at other times during the year, such as an Easter activity day and an alternative Halloween party. The strength of the team means likely growth in the mission and its reach over the next few years.Families are welcome on team.
Do join us as we reach out to 200 local children and their families.
