What we do

All Scripture Union staff, volunteers, Associate Trusts and Affiliates work together to meet the vision and mission of Scripture Union. Our work is broken down into five main areas:

Connecting you with your community

Every community in England and Wales needs to have a vital Christian witness to children, young people and families.

To enable this to happen, Scripture Union has seven regional teams with staff and volunteers helping churches reach out to their community. There are also Associate Trusts and Affiliates all over the country working in partnership with Scripture Union.

Their combined efforts cover work in schools, in the form of midweek and holiday clubs, often hosted in local churches, beach missions, SU holidays and two fantastic intiatives call X:site and Lifepath. Additional ways we connect you with your community are through family ministry, the Youth Encounter project and initiatives such as It's Your Move and Let's Celebrate Christmas and Easter.

Connecting you with local Schools

Working in schools is one of Scripture Union's main priorities. We do this by equipping both staff and pupils. Our dedicated team of development workers, associated workers (supported by local charitable trusts) and a network of thousands of volunteers, work together to inspire the local school community to have a greater understanding of God through the Bible.

Scripture Union has produced many different resources to help pupils, teachers, schools workers and Christians working in schools to ensure they are resourced for all stages of the educational journey. These include SchoolsLive, a website designed to support Christian groups in schools; resources to help parents and children in transition in, through and out of school; Into the Bible, an exciting primary schools RE resource to help teachers introduce the Bible to KS2 children so they learn about the Bible and Christianity; and resources for assemblies. Scripture Union also resources churches that have a schools ministry as part of their involvement in their local community.

Connecting you and your church

Scripture Union aims to equip every church to make disciples of children and young people, and to be at the centre of a vital Christian witness to children, young people and families.

We publish a range of materials for regular Sunday or midweek children's groups, provide holiday or midweek club materials for missions and holiday clubs, and encourage adults to grow through a range of Bible study group or individual materials. Connecting you internationally

Scripture Union works in over 120 countries. One of the strengths of Scripture Union's ministry is that most of its staff are nationals, ensuring the work is relevant to the culture and context of each country and region.

Scripture Union staff work around the world sharing the good news of Jesus and encouraging people in their faith through reading and understanding the Bible. In many countries there are fewer than five staff members so they really need our prayers, practical and financial support.

Scripture Union in England and Wales has a partnership with Scripture Union offices in the former Soviet Republic countries of Armenia, Belarus, Russia, Tajikistan and Ukraine, as well as Israel.

We also organise team mission experiences overseas, known as Frontline, with teams engaging in God's work among children and young people in places like Romania, Ukraine, Croatia, Hungary and Slovakia.

Scripture Union in England and Wales gives 10% of its income to Scripture Union movements around the world, including those mentioned above. It's always really exciting to pray for and hear about how God different Scripture Union movements are seeing God work through their activities.
