Philip Pullman may have won awards with his trilogy His Dark Materials, (inlcuding the Carnegie Medal for Northern Lights and the Whitbread Prize for The Amber Spyglass), but he certainly stirred up a storm among Christians while doing so. Although admiring Pullmans' imaginative ability to write a ripping yarn, his fictional universe which deliberately demotes and then destroys God has not always gone down well.
