Whose son are you? Fear of man How tragic! Some of the Jewish leaders who heard Jesus’ teaching and witnessed his miracles began to believe in him (vs 42,43), but were too proud of their own positions to admit it.

And how easy it is for us to do the same. Whether through embarrassment, like these leaders, or fear, like Peter, it is all too easy to deny Jesus. After all, we can see the expressions on the faces around us. God’s disappointment is less obvious.

But how damaging it is when our concern for the opinion of others is more important to us than God’s opinion of us. Oh to be transparent – that we appear to be what we truly are – and that what we are might be godly!

Look back over the last few days. Has ‘fear of man’ caused you to compromise on your obedience to God recently? Or perhaps the desire for the praise of others has made you try to appear more godly than you are?

If you need to, take time to repent. Ask God to help you remain faithful to him, and to act always and only for an audience of One. Focus once again on his amazing love for you. Be proud to name him as your Saviour.
